Comprehensive Valuation in the Insurance Brokerage Industry

Valuation of a privately held insurance brokerage at two valuation dates for the purpose of determining a spouse’s net family property and equalization payment owing.

We were engaged to prepare a comprehensive valuation report to value a private insurance brokerage as at two valuation dates This mandate involved consideration of multiple valuation issues, including:

  • Significant changes experienced by the business between the valuation dates, including multiple acquisitions completed shortly prior to the second valuation date.
  • A transaction subsequent to both valuation dates involving the business, and reconciliation of the value implied by the subsequent transaction to the value determined at each of our valuation dates.
  • Consideration of minority discounts in a closely held corporation.
  • Allocation of value to vested and unvested stock options.

The matter is ongoing.
